Jack Matney Memorial Labyrinth
As the nuanced history of the ancient labyrinth continues to unfold, so does the powerful dynamics of its use. No longer espoused as only a tool of meditation, or an agency of redemption, the labyrinth is now also seen as a path to healing. In this case, the Jack Matney Memorial Labyrinth is the first of a number of developmental stages associated with the reclamation of the former ‘smoking’ courtyard, as Presbyterian Hospital judiciously creates a smoke-free campus.
Jack’s wife, Linda, has provided amazing impetus in the actualization of this space. The McGill Rose Garden has created an enveloping oasis of medicinal herbs and flowers. Hospice Director, Kim Darden and Manager of Community Relations, Kathy Brown have been daring and farsighted in their understanding that art provides a practical and necessary opportunity for accessing healing and providing solace.
